Why we exist

Dignity is not a privilege. It is a birthright.

Open Hands began with a single well in a village that had walked six miles a day for water. Fifteen years later, that one act of generosity has multiplied into a movement spanning three continents.

We believe the most lasting change happens when communities lead. So we don't parachute in with quick fixes. We partner, we listen, and we build the kind of infrastructure that outlives us.

Clean Water

Wells, filtration, and sanitation that last decades.

Education

Schools, teachers, and scholarships for every child.

Food Security

Seeds, training, and resilient local farms.

Local Leaders

We hand the keys to the people we serve.

What we do

Programs built to outlast us

Three pillars, one promise: every initiative is designed, owned, and sustained by the communities themselves.

WaterRise

Solar-pumped wells, household filtration, and sanitation training that turn a six-mile walk into a thirty-second tap. Communities are trained to maintain every system.

1,840 water points live

BrightFutures

We build the classroom, pay the teacher, and fund the scholarship, then keep going until graduation. Girls' enrollment in our schools has tripled in five years.

96,000 students enrolled

HarvestHope

Drought-resilient seed, regenerative farming, and microgrants that move families from emergency aid to self-reliance, often within a single growing season.

41,000 farms supported

Good questions

Everything you want to know

Transparency is a promise we keep. If your question isn't here, our team replies within one business day.

92 cents of every dollar goes directly to field programs. The remaining 8% covers the audited financial controls, security, and reporting that keep your gift accountable. We publish a full breakdown in our annual report, independently verified by an external auditor.

Yes. Open Hands is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Every donation is fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you'll receive an itemized receipt instantly by email, plus a consolidated year-end statement every January.

Absolutely. When you give, you can direct your gift to WaterRise, BrightFutures, HarvestHope, or our greatest-need fund, which lets our field teams move resources to wherever they'll do the most good right now.

Every program has baseline and follow-up data: water access rates, school enrollment, crop yields, and health outcomes. We track them in partnership with local leaders and report results honestly, including the things that didn't work and what we changed because of it.

Anytime, no questions asked. You can pause, increase, decrease, or cancel your recurring gift from your donor dashboard in two clicks, or just email us and a real person will take care of it the same day.
